∆ MINDSET

  • Always forward.
    • Find a way, each day, to get, or get closer, from A to B
    • Move regardless of physical or emotional state
    • Inertia is worse than making mistakes, don’t wait for the perfect time
  • Never backward.
    • The past is dead, the only thing that counts is how you play your cards now
    • Don’t get hung up on and don’t identify with, your past achievements or failures
    • You will never have a greater opportunity to plant seeds for, or build on, your future than now
  • Omit the useless.
    • Omit both the physical and mental waste that is of no use or substance
    • Omit mental states such as self-pity, regret, envy, resentment, and/or anger
    • Omit physical states and activities such as mindless shopping, social-media, unreliable people, and social activities without substance

∆ MOVEMENT

  • Space/distance.
    • Stop, step back from the monkey chatter, paus, pivot and shift from the narrow to the wide
    • Creating distance to your thoughts is best done by running, writing/journaling, walking outdoors, and continuous conversations with yourself
    • Observe the current narrative but don’t let yourself be defined by it
  • Perspective/control.
    • Once you observe that which has your attention address it without confirming or discarding it
    • Ask yourself: what are you not seeing and what can you actually control?
    • Take action to write/re-write the narrative you want to create today
  • Base/baseline.
    • This is your base, this is your center of gravity, return to this, commit to this
    • Make your base resilient and antifragile and psychologically flexible
    • Raise the bar on your base, little by little, aim to improve todays baseline compared to yesterday

∆ MAINTAIN

  • Mind.
    • Observe your thoughts then label them, question them, and return
    • Find your symphony in doing the things you love
    • Learn to surf the urge – you can surf the waves from any desire, feeling or addiction without letting it disrupt your symphony
  • Body.
    • Exercise regularly, get enough sleep, and eat well
    • Have a clear intention when it comes to physical movement – carry yourself with the style you want to embody
    • Speak and interact with deliberate focus
  • System.
    • Externalize all commitments and thoughts into a trusted system (GTD & journaling) and revise/review daily
    • Revise the system itself regularly, improving the nuts and bolts
    • Make the system simple but functional, and make it accessible from anywhere

∆ DELTA / CHANGE

  • You will be better today than you were yesterday.
    • Keep improving – if you’re not disgusted with your 6-month-previous-self you’re not evolving fast enough
    • Invent and reinvent yourself as needed – do not be afraid to let go of past convictions
    • See change as opportunity – things have and will change rapidly, find ways to gain from the current (and future) volatility (see also: base antifragility & psychological flexibility)
